Thank you for visiting our Internet site.  We bake Organic Breads and Sweet Treats using locally produced ingredients such as locally grown flours, locally raised eggs and locally produced honey.  For those products which are not available locally, such as sugar, we work with companies who are supportive of Fair Trade and Fair Wage practices.

Bread from the Heart was interviewed at Chicago Green Festival, May 2011:
"Bread from the Heart is my contribution to the local, sustainable living movement.  It seems to me that such a basic, bread, should be pure, nutritious, and, of course, tasty.  I also believe that it is important to teach children about nutrition and give them the opportunity for hands on experience with making food.  I teach kids about grains and flour by using a grain mill attached to a stationary bike to make flour."

***Please note:  Our breads are made with Organic Whole Grains.  We stress Organic because we believe that food be grown without pesticides, and with lots of love and attention.  We do not believe in un-natural  chemicals or preservatives. ** *

We stress Whole Grains because we believe they have superior nutrition.  Nutrition, after all, is the point of food.  Making good-tasting, nutritious food is our chance for creative expression.

For Pastries we use a soft whole wheat flour.  It is softer than bread flour, has a bit less protein than bread flour and provides a softer texture in our Cakes and Quickbreads, such as Banana, Cranberry, Apple.  We also use Soft whole wheat flour in our Biscotti.
